
ABC Television's Rick Miller, host of the hit show Just For Laughs, begins spring tour. LoGograph congratulates Rick Miller on the first ever made-for-Canada television series to be broadcast on a major U.S. network. The show debuted in July 2007, and was ABC’s biggest summer hit, with an average viewership of 7 million households.
Miller was then asked to host a second season of Just for Laughs (ABC, Tuesdays at 8:30 pm), which premiered on New Year’s Day 2008, immediately following the Rose Bowl.
Miller is also an international theatre star, most famously known for his one-man show MacHomer, now in its 12th year of touring worldwide. His show Bigger Than Jesus, co-created with renowned Canadian director Daniel Brooks, has toured to 5 countries, and has been translated into 4 languages. The second Miller-Brooks co-creation, HardSell, is scheduled for a Toronto run in April-May 2009 with the Canadian Stage Company. Miller is also a frequent collaborator with international theatre sensation Robert Lepage, having worked on such plays as La Géométrie des Miracles, Zulu Time (co-created with Peter Gabriel), and on the film Possible Worlds. Their latest collaboration, Lipsynch, is a 9-hour epic production that will see its world premiere at the Barbican in London in Sept 2008.
All told, Miller has performed on every continent, for millions of ticket-buyers, in English, French, Italian, Spanish and German. He has played in some of the countries most prestigious venues, including the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Place des Arts in Montreal, and Massey Hall in Toronto. With credits ranging from classical theatre to the avant-garde, from musicals to live comedy, from voice work to film & television, Miller is one of Canada’s most versatile performers. His production company, WYRD Productions has been propelled to the top tier of Canadian creative arts.
He is the winner of one of Canada's most prestigious theatre prizes, the DORA Mavor Moore Award, for his play Bigger Than Jesus The one-man show won 3 DORAs in 2005 including Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Principal Role, and Outstanding Lighting Design (Beth Kates). In 2007, his show MacHomer was nominated for the DORA Award for Outstanding Touring Production, and Miller was also the host and MC of the Awards Gala.
