WATCH: A Nautilus Leak! Hal Whitehead on Whales and Ocean Sounds

Thursday, February 4, 2016

This new episode in our "Nautilus Leaks" series was created in partnership with the Whitehead Lab of Cetacean Research at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS.

Action-figure Jules and Ned Land, get a Nautilus Leak from Hal Whitehead, a Professor of Marine Biology, at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. In three minutes, Hal talks about how whales communicate through sounds in the ocean, and how noisy and disruptive humans are to whales in particular, and to ocean ecosystems in general. He also explains how important sperm whale oil was to the Industrial Revolution, and how - thankfully - we've managed to dramatically reduce whale hunting around the world. Ned the harpoonist isn't quite so thankful!

Don't miss Jules, Ned and Captain Nemo in the next theatrical run of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, at the Grand Theatre in London, ON from March 8-26 2016. Click here for tickets and more info.
